Plot: Trailer-park teenager Lance Guest regularly escapes from his humdrum existence by playing the video game Starfighter. His expertise at this recreational endeavor attracts the attention of affable stranger Robert Preston. Before he knows what's happening, Guest is whisked by Preston into the outer reaches of the galaxy! It turns out that the Starfighter game is being played in deadly earnest in outer space, and that Guest is expected to join Preston's Star League, then do battle with the wicked Kodan forces. Guest's principal ally is the lizardlike Grig (Dan O'Herlihy--and we didn't recognize him either). His great rival is the traitorous Xur (Norman Snow). The contrast between Guest's earthbound life as the son of single-mother Barbara Bosson and his new position as Starfighter is daunting at first, but soon the boy is manning a spacecraft and zapping the baddies as though he's been doing it all his life. The Last Starfighter was clearly designed with "sequel" in mind: giveaways include the resurrection of a "dead" character and the surprisingly casual escape of the villain. But would it actually mean the end of the series? While there has been additional speculation that Shia LaBeouf could continue the franchise as Indy Jr., there is now the possibility that Ford would actually return for a fifth film, if asked. In an interview in USA Today, the actor says he’d consider it, as long as it doesn’t take another 20 years. So, no death for Indy, then? Well, over at Aint It Cool News, they’re calling Ford’s comment a ruse. It’s simply spin, they suggest, dropped into major media outlet as a way of dispelling the rumors of and expectation for the death scene. However, I believe Ford may be telling the truth, and could be doing so even if his character does finally succumb to Nazi (or now Commie) gunfire, poisonous darts, mystical powers of the Ark, the wrong goblet, the smooth removal of his still-beating heart, snakes, boulders or old age. Never underestimate the power of Hollywood sequelitis to introduce a clone or utilize some other sort of resurrection strategy. In fact, with the Indy movies, the Christian allegory would be quite appropriate. Or maybe he only seems to die, but really he hopped aboard a UFO (a la Close Encounters) while his doppelganger stayed on Earth (a la The Last Starfighter) and that was who died (some AICN commenters have roughly the same idea). Body: Yes, you are correct Doc, one of my favorite movies my senior year in high school.Catherine Mary Stewart was in Night of the Comet (she was also in a lot of other movies The Last Starfighter and the Witches of Eastwick) and Alexandra Paul was in Christine (she was the one in Baywatch, the one that was really skinny and had no boobs) they do look a lot alike though.
