Title: Dude, Where's My Car?
Year: 2000
Director: Danny Leiner
Plot: The startling effects of chemically induced short-term memory loss provide the backdrop for this resinous teen comedy. Jesse (Ashton Kutcher) and Chester (Seann William Scott) are two hard-partying dudes who wake up after a very long night on the town to discover they've forgotten the presents they bought for their girlfriends Wanda (Jennifer Garner) and Wilma (Marla Sokoloff), twins who are more than a bit miffed that the stoners they've come to tolerate appear to have forgotten their anniversary. The presents are in Jesse's car, but they're so fuzzy on the details of the previous 24 hours that they have no idea where they left said automobile. Jesse and Chester set out to find their wheels, and along the way they discover that they had an even more eventful evening than they imagined, as strippers, aliens, a suitcase full of money, and a kitchen full of pudding become important pieces in the puzzle of the missing car. Dude, Where's My Car? also stars Hal Sparks, Kristy Swanson, Kevin Christy, and Fabio; it was written by Philip Stark, previously a writer for the TV series That 70's Show, which also features Kutcher in its cast. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
Body: "Jesse" (Ashton Kutcher) and "Chester" (Seann William Scott) wake up after a night of partying so hard they don't remember anything. They can't even remember where "Jesse" put his car.Eventually, they discover that their adventures including taking a large sum of money from a transvestite stripper and trying to find extra-terrestrial technology. All the while, trying to get their twin girlfriends (Jennifer Garner, Marla Sokoloff) anniversary presents.Let me say first that this is a really stupid, predictable movie. However, there are a lot of chuckle-worthy gags throughout the movie.About 99% of the jokes, sight gags and oral, is completely predictable. They were mostly horribly set-up to the point that you see the joke coming seconds before it happens. The other 1% only produced a fairly good chuckle.Character development, for the most part, is poor. All the characters are one-dimensional. However, the development of "Jesse" and "Chester" were uniquely laid out as we get to learn about them through the film. The performances from the majority of the cast were pretty weak, mostly due to what they were given to work with in the script. I think that they knew they were given a horrible script and didn't put their all into it. It sounded to me like they were just repeating what was on the pages they were handed. If you ask me, Kutcher and Scott were the only ones that were believable in their roles. The supporting cast was one of the weakest I've ever seen. These characters were very cliche, and were pretty forgetable. There was no substance in them at all. They were either just there, or used to poorly advance the plot. Then there is the special effects. There are a few, and they aren't edited into scenes well at all. In fact, even though this movie is nearly a decade old, the special effects in the climax look as if they were two decades old, and didn't age well. The soundtrack is pretty forgetable as well. I don't remember any piece of music in the entire movie. Nor do I remember if any songs in the movie were either classic tunes or covers of popular songs.I would suggest that you skip this movie. Only see this on television if there is nothing else on and you are bored.
Body: In the grand tradition of Dude, Where's My Car? this film has garnered a place on the list of movies that must be viewed when one is on one or more mind-altering substances. Honestly, the whole time I kept telling myself that if I smoked pot or was drunk The Pineapple Express would be the funniest movie I've seen in a long time.
Body: in my opinion, this is one of the greatest movies ever. the humor is so cheesey, but that's what makes the movie. the stupid bickering, and pointless conversation makes this one of those 'i started watching this, and now i can't stop' movies. if you don't understand the movie, watch it again. then you know what happens and you can put it together.
Body: The difference between a great film and an ok film can sometimes come down to just one or two variables, but when it comes to terrible movies, it's usually only one or two variables that they get right. Since there are so many different ways that films can break down, I thought it would be fun to play a game of iSpy with the worst movies and try to find the repeat offenders. The rules are that you have to pick a movie that you really think is bad and you have to explain the connection between the two films. For example, if I nominated Blankman, you could pick Major Payne for having Damon Wayons in both films or someone could pick, Leonard Part 6 because both leading actors will end up regreting their roles in these particular superhero films. The more creative the connections, the more bonus points you get. If you feel like playing, feel free to jump in with a movie and your answer. For the first nominee, I'm going to pick Dude Where's My Car?
Body: I hated this film at first. Seriously. I thought it was so dumb, to the point where I thought it was trying to be dumb, and so I scoffed and looked away. Then, some time later, I watched it again, with friends this time, and I saw for the first time the true genius that is Seann William Scott. This film is comic perfection, as quotable as Napoleon Dynamite, except nobody ever quotes it so it's not nearly as annoying. My favorite conversation is 'Hey look, a barn!' 'Is it red?' 'No.' 'Then it's not a barn!' Right, I know, not that funny in writing, but in the context of the movies, as with most quotes, it is hilarious. Don't be lame - don't listen to those who are too cool for this movie, as I once was. Embrace it, and just laugh.
