Title: Home Alone 2: Lost in New York
Year: 1992
Director: Chris Columbus
Plot: John Hughes and Chris Columbus repeat their best-selling formula from the first Home Alone film with this sequel. Once again Kevin McCallister's (Macaulay Culkin) family leave him behind, only now he gets on a flight to New York instead of going with his family to Miami. Kevin manages to hail a cab and is delivered to the doorsteps of the Plaza Hotel, where, using his father's credit card, he rents out a suite and has the time of his life -- although a smarmy hotel clerk (Tim Curry) and bellboy (Rob Schneider) eye him with suspicion. But ingenious Kevin keeps them at bay, using the same tomfoolery he applied to his uncle in the first picture. He takes time out from his consumer debauch to chat with a friendly old toy-store magnate (Eddie Bracken) and pontificate to a homeless Pigeon Lady (Brenda Fricker) on the meaning of Christmas. But then he runs into his old enemies Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern). When he finds out that they plan on robbing the old man's toy store on Christmas Eve, he mans the battle stations once again, complete with electric prods, flames of fire, and sundry blunt instruments. ~ Paul Brenner, All Movie Guide
He also wrote the screen play for the remake of Miracle on 34th Street which I didn't include here. Again thanks to laurabot for the suggestion of a John Hughes poll. Please vote only once in each poll. Body: "Kevin" (Macaulay Culkin) is back, but this time he's got a lot more room to play around in against the bumbling "Wet Thieves" (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern) -- New York City. In addition, he has to deal with the nosy, but well-meaning staff of a hotel he ("Kevin") saw advertised during a game show. Now "Kein" hasn't got his own skin to save, but a toy story he visits in his adventures in the "Big Apple." This has got to be one of the most predictable movies I have ever seen. The jokes barely produced a laugh from me, and I knew what sight gags were coming as they were being set-up on screen. Maybe if we saw "Kevin" formulating a plan and not setting up his booby traps, the movie may have been funnier to me. There is very little character development. I haven't seen the first movie, so I don't know how much the characters from that movie were developed in comparison to this film. New characters who help the plot move along also have little development. There are no real special effects in this movie, but of what there are, they are on the cheap side. You can tell when there is a stunt double, as well as when a performer is on a wire. Performances from the majority of the cast was quite weak in my opinion. Culkin's performance was lackluster at best. The script is probably to blame. This movie may have been better if I saw the first film. I only watched it because it was recommended by Yahoo Movies based on the movies I rated on that site. "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York" is still a cute movie, but it's not all that funny to me. If you want to see it, rent it as a second choice.
Body: The first movie I thought of was a movie I've only seen about five minutes of, Wim Wenders' The Million Dollar Hotel. Has anyone here seen all of it?
Barton Fink and Dirty Pretty Things are a couple of my faves that I think everyone should take a gander at. The hotel in Barton Fink is pretty much a character itself.

Undoubtedly my favorite film taking place in a hotel is The Shining. From beginning to end I love every frame of this flick.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas was a non-stop romp from hotel to hotel, trashing each room beyond all recognition.
These are some of my favorites as well! Good selections! Fear and Loathing really allows me to live out my vicarious experience of totally trashing a hotel room along with the fear accompanying such manic behavior without actually putting myself in danger. Has anyone seen. I would also like to mention Mystery Train from the great Jim Jarmusch! Several different stories all taking place around the same time in a hotel. Another funny one with multiple stories in different rooms in the same hotel, each story done by a different director is Four Rooms. It gets better as it goes. Hotel Rwanda is another obvious one with the name in the title. Hotels often being ominous places in movies I've found, this one is actually a sort of sactuary (although still dangerous) Although if you really want to get away and relax, take a trip with Monsieur Hulot on his holiday with a resort hotel full of quirky people. Or just scam your way into a luxery New York hotel with a tape recorded and some of your dad's credit cards like Kevin McCallister did in Home Alone 2. Bergman's The Silence takes place entirely within a hotel as well I believe. Hotels in movies are often interesting little microcosms. Sometimes these microcosms are seen in apartment complexes as well. Has anyone seen The Decalogue?
Body: At the risk of having too many discussion posts on this film's detail page from me, The Muppet Christmas Carol is my all time absolute favorite. I watch it several time each Christmas, and a few times through out the year for good measure. Yes, it might be unhealthy, but good movies do that to you. Love Actually is a fun network cast romantic comedy, I think Kristin Scott Thomas and Alan Rickman are my favorite couple in the movie, it's just interesting how things can go in a marriage. Plus the chick who is trying to seduce him is ridiculously scary. Home Alone 2: Lost in New Yorkis awesome mostly because it's in New York, which is beautiful and fun and Tim Curry is evil. Elf is slowly becoming my second favorite Christmas movie, it's extremely quotable and, well, I just don't get sick of it. "The best way to spread Christmas cheer, is to sing loud for all to hear." I actually said that in the middle of the office yesterday. I got hate looks.
Body: Lather, rinse, repeat. The second Home Alone is almost identical to the first on many points, with differences in minor details. The movie takes advantage of its locale by involving several NY City tourist destinations as scene locations, including The World Trade Center. Oops. Ah well, it’s still a fun movie, and the cartoon violence is turned up a notch or two.
I would cut out ads of his head from ABC Warehouse ads in the newspaper and pin them up on a bulletin board.3. Who Framed Roger Rabbit - this is probably the one that was one of the best as a kid but is even better when you are older.4. Home Alone / Home Alone 2 - yeah classic.5. The Addams Family. Yeah I'll concur with you on that one. There was a classic era of Disney cartoony stuff that was pretty fantastic too. Robin Hood, Pete's Dragon, Sword in the Stone, Mary Poppins, Alice in Wonderland, Bedknobs and Broomsticks.
