Title: Neon Genesis Evangelion [Anime Series]
Year: 1995
Director: Hideaki Anno
Plot: It is the year 2015 and the Earth is still recovering from a devastating attack suffered 15 years ago. Now it is under siege again, by giant alien creatures known as Angels. A multi-national military organization called NERV has a plan to combat the Angels with the use of mecha called Evangelions, but only a very small group of people can pilot Evangelions and all of them are age 14: born soon after the first attack. Among them is Shinji Ikari. Timid and hesitant, Shinji's mother is dead and his distant father is the head of NERV. Together with two other pilots, Rei Ayanami and Asuka Langley, Shinji toils against his fear, working to summon the courage to take on the salvation of mankind against this ominous enemy. As more about NERV is revealed, the nature of the Evangelions and the Angels becomes more cryptic. Is there a reason that the only people who can pilot Evangelions are young teenagers who have lost a parent? One of the best known anime of all time, Neon Genesis Evangelion is much more complex and steeped in emotional and spiritual subtext than traditional examples from the mecha genre of anime. ~ Cammila Albertson, All Movie Guide
Body: Is anyone here a fan of the Neon Genesis Evangelion series? It has such a cult following! My friend convinced me to watch it. I ended up watching the entire anime series, and the subsequent movies. I thought it was was interesting enough to keep me going, although I was confused quite often. It can seem very convoluted on first watching it. But I guess people love it because apparently every aspect of the series is supposed to have a deeper meaning, or at least is suspected to. Now the series is being re release as a rebuild. I can't exactly figure out what that means though. Is it completely re animated or just cleaned up from before? Also I thought I heard rumors that there was going to be a live action film version of the story made in Hollywood, but I can't find too much more about that now. Anyone here have any opinions on it?
Body: Shin seiki Evangelion Gekijô-ban: Air/Magokoro wo, kimi ni (Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion) So it turns out the film Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death & Rebirth was completely redundant and pointless. The reason being the first three fourths of it is a compilation of scenes from the Neon Genesis Evangelion anime series and the last fourth of it is the same as the first fourth of the film Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion. If you are interested in watching the Neon Genesis Evangelion series, take my advice and just skip Death & Rebirth. Just go straight from the series to The End of Evangelion and you won't miss anything. If you like yourself some trippy anime, it's not hard to find. There's a lot of bizarro stuff out there. But The End of Evangelion certainly stands up well to the rest in these qualities. As an alternate ending of the story to the one presented in the last few episodes of the series, I didn't initially feel like the movie answered too much more. In fact it just seemed a bit more ambiguous and confusing. But after discussing it with the friend who originally prodded me into seeing the series in the first place, I can see how complex the whole series really is and why it garners so much interest for so many people. Yet for me, although everything is complex and references so many historical and religious ideas and icons, it doesn't really reveal any new meaning to them or give me any personal interest or insight. Body: Shin seiki Evangelion Gekijô-ban: Shito shinsei (Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death & Rebirth) The first three fourths or so of this movie is re-edited from the entire Neon Genesis Evangelion anime series. If you've already seen that series, then this section is redundant. If you haven't seen it, then you are missing a lot, and I suspect it would be confusing. The last fourth of the film is sort of an alternate ending to the series, which wasn't much of an ending anyways. And the ending of this film actually isn't an ending either. It's basically a cliffhanger to the next film, The End of Evangelion, which I have yet to see. Although it does have one of the cooler Eva fight scenes of the series. Kind of a strange way of presenting this story though. Rating: 6/10
Body: Shin seiki evangerion (Neon Genesis Evangelion) A famous anime series with a huge cult following. It left me a bit disappointed. I never had any real interest in the giant robot animes, but this seemed like a good one to try. I'm sure it's much more expansive in themes than a lot of other ones, almost too much so though. I understand now what the director was trying to do with the ending, even though the last few episodes seem to go in a whole new direction and leave a lot of plot elements that had been building up behind. I guess a lot of other people were pissed about this two since there were two movies to follow with a new ending essentially. I've seen one of them so far, which was mostly a recap of the series. I'll pass further judgment after I've seen all of it I guess. Rating: 7/10
Body: How is this survey a meme? has it become a meme now? you guys do know what a meme is right??? • What anime are you watching now? Soul Eater. ITs a decent quirky action series. • What is your favourite time to watch? when im in the mood and not caught up in something else. • And your favourite place? Streaming from my PC to my LCD TV.• Who is your favourite auteur? Miyazaki... duh • Your favourite OST? I really don't know, There was that Magical mermaid series and I thought that opening song was pretty hilarious. • What is the most difficult anime you’ve ever watched? Pokemon.... it sucks. Say what you want, attack me all day long fanboys. I don't care, that stuff is just as crappy as the He-man i grew up watching. • What was the first anime you remember watching? I got Akira on VHS for free from a Pick-a-flick that closed down near my University. Waay back in 98 my freshmen year. But I think the first one I ever watched was Ghost in the Shell. • Do you have a comfort show that you re-watch? Umm this isn't going to be much help and maybe ill update this later, but theres this funny series about an evil magical princess that comes to earth to crush and conquer all of humanity. Its a lot of laughs. • What is the most erotic anime you’ve watched? I don't remember but there definitely were tentacles involved. • Which classic should you have watched? Grave of fireflys. I just couldn't get through it. I know I know. • Which series did you never want to end? Outlaw Star was the first anime series I watched all the way through. I loved it, I loved the entire freaking thing. • What is your most overrated anime? evangelion... yaaaawwwn. I just watched it for the first time. It was ok... Gurren Lagaan is better. Im sure its because gurren lagaan is built on the shoulders of escaflowne but I don't care. • Which character could you have an affair with? Umm... they aren't real people! Also, if they were they would look like bug eyed freaks. Yes girls can sometimes be attractive, but I don't and won't entertain fantasies about them. I have a real woman in real life, I attribute this success to devoting my imagination to her and not some 2d fantasy girl.• Who is your favourite character? Thats tough.... I guess i like the Gar characters like Kamina(lagaan) or Kaneda(akira). • Which character do you most dislike? Shinji Ikari, I want to kick the shit out of him. What a pussy. • Which character do you identify with most? Gene Starwind! A drifter a renegade a pirate and a ninja, Spike from Cowboy beebop is in the same mold as him. • Which anime changed your life? wow... tough question. But I guess I'd say Ghost in the shell. It was such a cool concept with the struggle between man and machine and where the soul begins and ends. Very cool sci fi stuff. If you like this kind of story then read Neuromancer and Snow crash (books). Also, watch Blade Runner.
